Review of: About that Fling, by Tawna Fenske. Audiobook edition narrated by Kelly Mizell. This is a forbidden love Contemporary Romance in Kindle Unlimited.
It’s so great that Kindle Unlimited has a selection of really nice audiobooks that you can listen to for free! While I have not always been happy with my choices, this one is definitely recommended.

Jenna works in PR and she really knows how to always make everything look just fine on the outside. But she doesn’t only do it at her place of work, but keeps all aspects of her life nicely compartmentalized. When Jenna meets this amazing guy by the name of Adam, he screws up all her nice compartmentalization by showing up in every part of Jenna’s life. Now the fling threatens Jenna’s job and the relationship to her best friend.

It’s quite refreshing that Adam is a thoroughly real guy, not a one-dimensional cave man. Jenna has a tendency to make decisions that make you face-palm, but Adam doesn’t do that. I enjoyed the development of their relationship and feelings for one another. The story feels filled out by several plot lines that are being followed through to the end.
However, while I found the book cute and light-hearted, the scene that was set might not be for everyone. If you have a strong opinion about or have been hurt by infidelity, this book might not be for you. It’s a big topic in the story and several characters are involved or affected. I think it’s fair to consider this a trigger warning for this book.

Kelly Mizell did a fantastic narration. She has a very pleasant voice and a great ability for different voices and enticing male voices. She also knows how to present a joke deadpan. Potentially, this book could have been a “The Consequence of Loving Colton” disaster all over again. But thanks to this wonderful narrator things never get hysterical while still giving you many laughing out loud moments. Or at least giggle lightly like a lady 😉

It was an entertaining listen with a lot of chuckling between the more dramatic moments.  And I can wholeheartedly recommend this book if you are looking for romance and storyline.

Publisher’s summary
As the top PR person for the Belmont Health System, bright, beautiful Jenna McArthur knows how to spin bad news and make it sound good. But when her adorable Aunt Gertie—a secret romance writer—urges Jenna to embrace her wild side, Jenna tumbles into bed with Adam Thomas, a guy she’s just met, for a fun and fantastic one-night stand. Too bad Adam is the one guy who’s totally off-limits. There aren’t enough clever words in the world to spin the story in a way that won’t wreck Jenna’s closest friendship or destroy her job. With the irresistible Adam always around her at work, wearing an aura of temptation like a fabulous cologne, Jenna has to hold tight to her senses to avoid falling for him. Will he take her to the heights of pleasure again—or will their attraction destroy everything she’s worked for?

  1. Sounds good. I’m particularly interested in knowing what the narration is like in reviews for audio books as it can make or break the book. I make note of narrators to keep an eye out for.
