Contemporary Romance – Review
Birthday Suit was probably the most highly anticipated Romance audiobook of 2019. I first posted about it before release. This is the updated version with my review!
In case you missed the hype: Lauren Blakely, beloved queen of romantic comedy, brought together a full cast of popular narrators to produce this romance audiobook.
There is no rule in the Man Code as unbreakable as this: No matter how beautiful, smart, clever, and witty she is, do not – under any circumstances – fall in love with your best friend’s woman. Yeah. So there’s that. Look, it’s not like I didn’t know I screwed up by falling for her.
Also, for the record, unrequited love sucks big time. And, I might have cut myself some slack by now, given everything that went down in the last few years, but Lulu just walked back into my life in a big way.
There are three things I’ve never been able to resist – my friends, my family, and chocolate. Leo Hennessy? He was nowhere on that list. He’s been a true friend – a friend who walked through hell and back with me. Now, I’m stepping into my new future. I didn’t expect it to include a riddle-filled, race-against-the-clock scavenger hunt across New York City. With Leo.
Suddenly, I’m looking at this man with new eyes… But my life spun out because of a man once before, and I can’t risk my fresh start, no matter what the temptation. And Leo is most definitely a temptation of the sexiest, sweetest, and most dangerous variety. More irresistibly delicious than chocolate…
Performed by Andi Arndt and Sebastian York as Lulu and Leo. Supporting cast: Ginny: Erin Mallon, George: R.C. Bray, Kingsley: January Lavoy, Cameron: Dion Graham, Dean: Shane East, Tripp: Jason Clarke, Noah: Joe Arden, Tabitha: Julia Whelan, Mariana: Robin Miles, RaeLynn: Savannah Peachwood, Vivian: Robin Miles.
The two main characters are narrated by Andi Arndt and Sebastian York. And in supporting roles, we have Joe Arden, RC Bray, Jason Clarke, Shane East, Dion Graham, January LaVoy, Erin Mallon, Robin Miles, Savannah Peachwood, and Julia Whelan.
I absolutely love full-cast audiobooks. They have this epic feel to them like you’re listening to a movie.
And Birthday Suit did not disappoint. The production is absolutely fantastic. I believe the narrators had a great time together because there’s this wonderfully happy and exciting atmosphere coming through.
This audiobook put me in a great mood!
Birthday Suit is a real feel-good romantic comedy. I believe the story was tailored towards the audiobook project. And it goes together really well. However, I feel the story itself doesn’t provide a lot of surprises or unexpected twists. In that sense, it’s not my favorite Lauren Blakely book.
But then again, this isn’t only about the story, but also about how it is brought to life. The experience as a whole.
In my opinion, this is an absolute must-listen for any romance audio fan. And as far as I know, it’s the first unabridged full cast romance audiobook. It’s an amazing project and a really enjoyable audiobook. If you haven’t spend a credit on this yet, get on it! 😉
