How to get Audible Escape outside the USA

Binge on Audiobooks in the UK, Australia, and anywhere else

You have probably heard about Audible’s amazing subscription for unlimited listening! But it’s only offered on Audible.com, so in this post, I want to show you how to sign up to Audible Escape from the UK, Canada, or anywhere else in the world.

I don’t remember anymore how I found the Audible Romance Package (now called Audible Escape).

But you would not believe how I squealed at the chance of listening to so many audiobooks for free!

You get a lot of value for your money compared to an Audible Gold membership. Even more so now with the reduced price.

This guide was first published in October, 2018. This is an updated version!

Audible Escape from the UK, Canada, Australia...
Audible subscription for unlimited audiobooks

Of course, I love telling my fellow audiobook addicts about “binge listening on a budget”. But people living in the UK, EU, Australia, or Canada often assume they can’t sign up for Audible Escape because it’s only offered on Audible.com and not on their local Audible marketplace.

Fortunately, it’s easy to subscribe to it no matter where you live. The only obstacle is that you need a credit card (for Audible, not for the guide!!). A Visa debit card works, too.

If you’re unsure, check out why I love Audible Escape so much and why I consider it the best subscription for unlimited audiobooks. But the first month is free anyway! Definitely worth a try.

For convenience, this guide shows how to sign up using a desktop computer. Later I will also show you how you can get to your new audiobooks in the Android app.

Don’t worry, it might seem like a lot of steps but they’re all tiny and you’ll be done in 3 minutes!

Step 1

Click on the banner above or navigate to Audible Escape in your browser. The banner is an Affiliate link which means I receive a small fee if you subscribe to your free month through my website. Obviously, it doesn’t cost you anything extra or has any impact on your order. It’s free 😊

You’ll arrive on a page looking like this:

Audible Escape sign-up screen

Step 2

Click on “Join Now” and Amazon will prompt you to login.

Step 3

Amazon and Audible have a global login. That means you can login to Audible.com with the exact same email and password that you used yesterday to order a new toothbrush and cat food on your local Amazon!

Don’t make a new account! Just use the one you always use to log into Amazon.

Step 4

Here we get to the bit where, sadly, not everyone can sign up to Audible Escape. You need a credit card. Debit cards only work if it’s a Visa. If you already use a credit card for Amazon, you are done now. You can skip on to the next point.

If you have a credit card but don’t use it for your Amazon account, you will see this screen and need to put in your information:

Amazon add payment method

Step 5

Once you’ve added a card to your account, you are done and can start your Audible Escape test month. Whoo!!

You can browse around and borrow up to 10 audiobooks at the same time, and as many as you like during the month.

Keep in mind, this works just like Kindle Unlimited “read and listen for free”. You borrow the audiobooks and once your subscription runs out, they will be returned. You don’t own them.

You’re signing up for a free test month and, even though you need your credit card, this is completely free! You can cancel anytime, right away if you wish, and still enjoy a full month of unlimited Romance audiobook bliss.

How to listen to Audible Escape audiobooks in the Android app

In this second part of the guide, I would like to show you how to change the marketplace in the Android app. You will only be able to listen to Audible Escape audiobooks when you’re logged into the US marketplace. But you’ll also still see all your downloaded audiobooks from other marketplaces.

Step 1

Open the app and go to the menu:

Audible android app - change marketplace: settings

Step 2

Open the menu by clicking the three stripes and scroll down to Settings:

Step 3

Click on settings and then log out of Audible:

Step 4

Don’t erase your downloaded content! Just click okay and don’t toggle Erase.

Step 5

Now you are outside on the login screen. At the bottom, you can see which Audible you were logged into previously. For me it was .co.uk.

Step 6

Click on the marketplace and select .com:

Step 7

Now you’re back on the login screen, but at the bottom, it should say Audible.com. If that is so, use your usual Amazon email and password (the one you used before to order Audible Escape).

Done! You can now use your app as usual. You can download Audible Escape audiobooks that you can either choose in the app or on the desktop. Audiobooks contained in the subscription are marked with a pink Audible symbol in the corner.

To log back into your local Audible, just follow the same steps. But you can only listen to Escape audiobooks while logged into Audible.com.

Once your test month runs out, the borrowed audiobooks will disappear.

You didn’t dare yet, but I could convince you that it’s easy? Click here** to sign up.

I hope I could show you that signing up to Audible Escape from the UK, Australia, or anywhere else is really easy. And it’s of course also perfectly fine by Audible.

Pin this guide if you want to check back again later (for example, as a reminder how to change the marketplace in the app).

  1. This is excellent information. I had the romance package for quite a while. I gave it up when reviewing became really busy and I didn’t have time to choose books With as much free time. Of course, the books that I select from NetGalley and other review sites are chosen, but I am trying now to squeeze time and pick books that I don’t owe reviews to.

  2. I do love my audiobooks. I have noticed that the price for the .com is $14.99 a month for 1 credit and the .co.uk site is 7.99 a month for 1 credit. The .com site is making over $3 more on credit than the UK site.

    1. Yeah, I noticed that, too. A gold or platinum membership there is only worth it together with the Romance Package, because that’s 50% off if you have a sub. The audiobooks are the same everywhere.

  3. Great tutorial. I do listen to audio books but tend to prefer print or ebooks. This post was very useful those. Will bookmark in case I decide to sign up for a package.

  4. I definitely need to start listening to audio books – I’ve only tried a few and they haven’t quite been right for me. Reading through this and how easy it looks to set up is definitely making me feel like I should indulge – thanks!

    1. For me they’re almost a lifesaver. Between work and baby audiobooks allow me to read so much again.
But yeah, it’s important to find the right stories and best narrators to get into it. Definitely always check the samples on audible!
