Multi-Cast Audiobook: Payback by Amy Daws

Payback by Amy Daws put me on a bit of a rollercoaster ride. I went in with huge expectations. The audiobook was recommended left, right, and center.

Now, the higher my expectations, the more critical I get. And overall, I can’t say the audiobook blew me away as much as I had hoped. But that’s not to say I wouldn’t recommend it!

I was very thoroughly entertained by this cute Sports Rom-Com.

Payback

written by Amy Daws, narrated by Erin Mallon, Aaron Shedlock, Will Watt, and Charlotte Cole

The Yikes Moment…

I’ll start with something that made me bristle.

When Allie and Roan have sex for the first time, he spanks her pretty hard because she didn’t do what he had told her. They had known each other for only a few hours. I thought, in this scene, it was problematic.

I’m generally all for spanking, but it pulled me out of the mood in this scene because it just didn’t fit there for me.

However, that was the only time I thought Roan was crossing a line.

Overall, Roan was an extremely nice and respectful guy. He had principles and wasn’t a manwhore. So, I could forgive this one scene. But I still felt it was worth mentioning.

The Multi-Cast Narration of Payback by Amy Daws

The narration was everything I had hoped for. Aaron Shedlock and Erin Mallon were the perfect Roan and Allie. Will Watt and Charlotte Cole read the supporting characters.

Between the multi-cast narration and the wonderful Harris-Brothers-universe, I was really pulled in after that yikes-moment and listened pretty much non-stop.

The Heroine

In some regards, Allie was not the sharpest tool in the shed. She made some really questionable decisions and it took her a long time to figure things out and change her ways.

That being said, I liked her a lot. She had been through some pretty awful things and I found it understandable that it messed up her mind. I also liked seeing her grow, how she started to understand her own actions and put them into perspective.

Amy Daws’ Harris Brothers

Allie is a cousin to the Harris Brothers and Roan is a team mate.

I haven’t read any Amy Daws books before. But I loved the Harris family in this book and how warmly they welcomed Allie. It gave me the warm and fuzzies and made me so happy for her.

Recommendation

For me as a listener, the initial hype around Payback was not ideal. I think my review would read much more enthusiastic, had I not gone in with such high expectations.

But it’s a great Romantic Comedy with likable characters, and an oustanding audiobook production. And that’s why I think you’ll most likely enjoy this audiobook, too!

You can pick up Payback by Amy Daws for a reduced price if you get the audiobook together with the ebook.
