Picture this: you’re settling into your favorite reading nook with a nice drink, perhaps by an open window with a gentle breeze, and you’re transported to a world where magic exists but no one’s trying to end civilization as we know it. Welcome to the wonderful world of cozy fantasy audiobooks!
Cozy fantasy is the literary equivalent of a warm hug, it combines the enchantment and wonder of magical worlds with the gentle, comforting pace of slice of life fiction. These stories feature fantastical elements like witches, dragons, and spells, but without the high stakes, epic battles, or world-ending threats that dominate other fantasy genres.
Instead, you’ll find our heroes and heroines running magical cafes, solving small-town mysteries with a touch of magic, or simply living their best lives in enchanted settings.
What makes cozy fantasy audiobooks particularly special is how the narrators bring these whimsical worlds to life. The best cozy fantasy narrators understand that these stories are meant to comfort and delight, capturing both the wonder of magic and the warmth of community that defines the genre.
Whether you’re dealing with a stressful day or just want to escape to somewhere magical and safe, these audiobooks provide the perfect retreat.
Ready to discover your next magical obsession? Here are some absolutely enchanting cozy fantasy audiobooks that will transport you to worlds where magic makes everyday life just a little bit sweeter.
Legends & Lattes
Written and Narrated by Travis Baldree
Legends & Lattes is the defining work of Cozy Fantasy! Audiobook narrator Travis Baldree’s debut book about an orc warrior who retires from fighting and opens her own coffee shop together with a succubus and a ratkin created a new genre that we all needed.
Give me magic, but give me slice of life and low stakes, too! It doesn’t always have to be the end of the world, right?!
Travis Baldree’s narration for his own characters and story is absolutely wonderful, and I loved loved loved every second of this book! So much so, I have already listened to it twice.
Even though the stakes are low, this is a captivating, wonderful, enchanting story that will pull you into a fantastical world without all the grim and the world-saving and the everyone-is-taking-themselves-sooo-serious. An absolutely lovely audiobook I wholeheartedly recommend!
The Phoenix Keeper
Written by S. A. MacLean
Narrated by Stephanie Bentley
This Cozy Fantasy has all my love! It’s set in a zoo for magical animals and has a beautifully diverse cast.
Aila takes care of the zoo’s single female phoenix. She loves these animals and is passionate about her job. When she gets the chance to apply for a breeding program and have a male phoenix move in, she is beyond nervous. Helping the phoenix to survive is her life goal!
Aila is an interesting heroine. She is very single-minded and can, at times, come off as unlikable. This also burdens her relationship with her best friend as well as her male colleague, who asks her out on a date.
But then there’s also Luciana, the griffin keeper, who constantly challenges Aila, but gives it her all to help Aila get accepted into the phoenix breeding program.
This book completely pulled me in, and I loved the fantasy setting that is very similar to our real world (with webcams and phones), but also has these magical animals like unicorns and dragons. Give me more of this!!
Stephanie Bentley did such an excellent job with the audio version. She brought Aila and the gang to life and kept me absolutely hooked on this amazing contemporary cozy fantasy audiobook!
Homegrown Magic
By Jamie Pacton and Rebecca Podos
Narrated by Jeremy Carlisle Parker, Dani Martineck
Homegrown Magic is an adorable cozy fantasy romance, read by two of my favorite narrators of queer audiobooks!
Dani Martineck voices Yael, the only kid of a very rich family. They feel suffocated by the expectations put upon them and aren’t comfortable with the immense influence their family’s company has over the citizens.
Jeremy Carlisle Parker voices Margot, a young woman whose family was destroyed by Yael’s family. Margot has plant and potion magic and tries to keep the remnants of her family’s business running. Then Yael stumbles (back) into her life…
The flow of this story is pure perfection, and the romance at the center really pulled on my heartstrings!

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries
Written by Heather Fawcett
Narrated by Ell Potter and Michael Dodds
Are you in the market for a grumpy heroine and a sunshine hero? And a heartwrenching moment of “the grumpy one is soft for the sunshine one after the sunshine one got hurt”?
Yes, Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries is absolutely delightful!
And it’s honestly remarkable how this book manages to feel so very cozy, with the cute little rural hut and the academia and general bookwormery, while also sporting several axe injuries and things like bloodied hand prints on a window, observed from the outside.
I suppose the atmosphere of this book perfectly captures the way faeries are portrayed in many stories: Often beautiful and fun, gliding through luscious gardens, hosting feasts with all kinds of candy, while they can also be villains, cat-like in the way they play with and torture their prey.
The narration by Ell Potter and Michel Dodds was wonderful and really fleshed out for me how I pictured Emily and Bambleby while listening. This is an immensely enjoyable cozy fantasy with a slow-burn romance.
The Nameless Restaurant
Written by Tao Wong
Narrated by Emily Woo Zeller
This short audiobook is a real treat for fans of cozy fantasy! The entire story is set in a hidden restaurant. Most patrons are magical beings, and as the story progresses, we find out more about them.
I was completely enchanted by this audiobook. Chapters begin with a description of the dish the owner cooks for his guests, which were truly mouthwatering.
But I was also amazed at how captivated I was by the guests and their stories.
The audiobook is narrated by Emily Woo Zeller, who perfectly brings out the atmosphere of this magical place!
Flowerheart
Written by Catherine Bakewell
Narrated by Morag Sims
While the blurb of Flowerheart sounds quite suspenseful and mysterious, I can assure you that this book has very cozy vibes!
Clara struggles with her magic. She can’t control it and accidentally hurts her father. Both she and her father receive a lot of support from the magical community, though.
Clara also gets involved in a mystery about a drug-like potion that puts people into a form of vegetative state where they aren’t truly conscious anymore, but can eat and drink.
The book has a truly happy ending and many factors that make the life-or-death stakes less threatening.
Morag Sims is such an outstanding narrator who brought out all of Clara’s emotions! I enjoyed listening to Flowerheart immensely.
Drinks and Sinkholes
Written by S. Usher Evans
Narrated by Deborah Balm
Bev (which is short for beverage wench) runs the Weary Dragon Inn in a cute little village set in a medieval-ish fantasy world. Magic exists, but is forbidden by law.
One day, a sinkhole appears. The first one is outside the village, but every day there’s a new one. And they keep coming closer to the houses. Bev feels that she has to fix this and save her town!
S. Usher Evans’ Drinks and Sinkholes perfectly manages to keep you invested in its characters and their quest while giving you all the cozy goodness of the Weary Dragon Inn and its famous food.
The audiobook is narrated by Deborah Balm, who wonderfully brings Bev to life. You can get the whole three-book series as one audiobook box set!
The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels
Written by India Holton
Narrated by Elizabeth Knowelden
India Holton’s Dangerous Damsels are so wildly entertaining! Lady pirates in flying houses? Yes, please! This steampunkish adventure romance cozy fantasy audiobook is absolutely delightful. Fantastic banter, witty writing, an all-around fun setting and story.
This is such a unique ride full of extremely colorful characters, and I laughed out loud so many times. I adore this ridiculous world!
Elizabeth Knowelden excels at the posh British accents, and the book ran like a movie in my head. How I wish this would be adapted on screen! I’m sure it would be a blast.
