Salt Magic, Skin Magic instantly became one of my favorite audiobooks of the year!**
Salt Magic Skin Magic
written by Lee Welch, narrated by Joel Leslie
This was my first ever historical AND my first ever M/M Romance. So, initially, I was unsure if it was really for me. But then I read the blurb and was so intrigued, I had to listen to this book.
Lord Thornby has been trapped on his father’s isolated Yorkshire estate for a year. There are no bars or chains; he simply can’t leave. His sanity is starting to fray.
When industrial magician John Blake arrives to investigate a case of witchcraft, he finds the peculiar, arrogant Thornby as alarming as he is attractive. John soon finds himself caught up in a dark fairy tale, where all the rules of magic – and love – are changed.
To set Thornby free, both men must face life-changing truths – and John must accept that the brave, witty man who’s winning his heart may also be about to break it. Can they escape a web of magic that’s as perilous as love?
The storyline was everything I had hoped for after I got hooked by the blurb. I did not see the big twist coming. Maybe because I’m new to this genre, I don’t know. But for me it was really a wild ride, finding out what exactly was going on with Thornby.
I loved how we got to know Thornby and Blake. And how they got to know each other. Both of them are extremely likable, complex characters. They have colorful histories and if there were novellas about the time before the events in Salt Magic Skin Magic, I would probably devour those, too.
The story starts out super intriguing and suspenseful, the first chapter pulled me in immediately. And the tension keeps on
It’s a fast-paced story that always gave me enough details to keep the movie in my mind running.
This was my first audiobook narrated by Joel Leslie. And it was one of those rare ones where I’m absolutely blown away by how the narration and the story fit together so perfectly that I’m basically fangirling from the first to the last minute. I’m not kidding. It’s a thing, but it’s an extremely rare thing to happen for me.
And when this happens, it gets a bit tricky to take it all apart and list the aspects I liked. Because it simply fits perfectly PERIOD!
Alas, what good is a review without a few
Joel Leslie’s haughty accent was so much fun to listen to. His ability for different voices kind of blew me away. The voice of the dad was so significantly different, that you could almost think it’s another voice actor. And his intonations really filled the story with life.
While the story itself could easily keep me hooked, the fantastic narration made this an extremely memorable and outstanding audiobook that I will definitely listen to more often.
This is an audiobook that deserves an all-around recommendation. I think every Fantasy and Romance reader and every fairytale fan will have a blast listening to Salt Magic Skin Magic!
You can pick it up in a Whispersync deal. Buying the ebook and audiobook together is cheaper than an Audible credit!
Thank you so much, Lee Welch, for giving me a free copy of your audiobook, I loved listening to it!
