The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez is an utterly captivating Contemporary Romance that will make you laugh and cry… and laugh again!

We have two major tropes here. As the title suggests, this is kind of a Rockstar Romance, although most of the time Jason didn’t feel to me like your usual rockstar hero. He’s a very down-to-earth guy.

It’s also a “second chance at love” story with a widowed heroine. And I just couldn’t help but love Sloan! Her strength, her vulnerability, how she finds herself again…

The Happy Ever After Playlist**

written by Abby Jimenez
narrated by Erin Mallon and Zachary Webber

The story begins as a light-hearted Romantic Comedy, utterly charming and ridiculous. But over time, the tone changes a bit. The flow was fantastic though, it felt very natural. We all go through good times and bad times!

From the get-go, it’s clear that Sloan will need a lot of healing in order to ever have a relationship again. I expected the path to go differently than it did, but the way the author handled it definitely made sense to me. She treated the topic of grief and moving on after loss with a lot of care.

I know grief Romance isn’t for everyone since the “one and only life partner” trope doesn’t work quite as smoothly in these as in other novels. But I enjoy reading them since I like the idea that there can be more than one person for you. That you can find love no matter what you’ve been through!

There were never any comparisons in The Happy Ever After Playlist between Jason and Sloan’s ex-fiance and it felt right to me how there was still room for him by the end – a more healthy, sustainable amount of space.

As for the hero and heroine, I absolutely loved how the two already had a connection long before they first got in touch with each other! It’s these kinds of things that are so completely beautiful and romantic to me. Like it was meant to be…

And as a doggy owner, I always enjoy when pets get the center stage in Romance novels. Which is why I absolutely loved Tucker and his part in bringing these two people together. He’s just so cute and fluffy and everything surrounding him is just so sweet!

The Narration

Erin Mallon and Zachary Webber are among the most popular Romance narrators! And I don’t really need to say much about them for my fellow Romance audio fans.

However, if you aren’t yet familiar with these two names, you’re in for a treat and I’m sure you won’t forget them! Both narrators have beautifully pleasent voices that you’ll happily listen to for hours. They have a wide range of voices to make it easy to follow dialogue as well as perfect intonation.

Erin Mallon has this vulnerability in her voice that fits Sloan’s grief and healing perfectly. And Zachary Webber… well… he just sounds like a friggin rockstar!

Recommendation

I had a wonderful time listening to The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez! It’s a beautifully written story with complex characters that made me feel like I was right there with them. I was completely captivated! Which is honestly saying a lot in a time where I struggle to get into any stories and find my focus.

This one’s deemed credit-worthy!!

  1. I believe there is more than one life partner for each of us, if we allow ourselves to be open to it. It has worked for me and it worked for my mother. – Margy

    1. Yeah, and I think the magic of Contemporary Romance lies in how it’s beautiful and positive and hopeful, yet something that is still in its essence realistic and something we can (and should) aim for. Maybe not the chiseled chests, but finding love 🙂
